The idea that I can have a small machine that can manufacture working parts was immediately appealing when I heard of it in College.  Back then the 3D printer was the size of a refrigerator.  My first 3D printed part was designed and made during college.  The Prusa I3v you see below was assembled by myself and I use at home, you can tell it has been used quite a lot.
